6 pm: Conference “1424-1523: art in Perugia in the 99 years from the death of Braccio to the death of Perugino and Signorelli”. Franco Ivan Nucciarelli talks about it (Palazzo dei Priori, Sala della Vaccara)
Between 1424 and 1523 Perugia was affected by profound innovations in artistic production, especially in painting, but also in architecture and sculpture. In the year of the 500th anniversary of the death of the two great artists, among exhibitions, meetings and places to visit, a tribute also from Perugia1416.
7.30 pm: Opening of the Taverns of the Magnificent Districts Porta Eburnea, Porta San Pietro and Porta Santa Susanna (also 11am-3pm) and Porta Sant’Angelo

Friday 9 June
From 11 to 12am: Widespread exhibition “Altera effigies, Perugia1416 behind the scenes, stolen shots” (between Sala S.Maria della Misericordia, Via Oberdan 54 and Sala della Cannoniera, Rocca Paolina)
4pm: Opening of the information desk and gadgets Perugia1416 (Piazza della Repubblica): books, banners, T-shirts, prints, magnets and other souvenirs of the event
4pm: Tribute to Perugino: National Gallery of Umbria, guided tour of the exhibition “The best Perugino master of Italy in his time”: (admission €10.00; groups of 8 to 25 people; maximum punctuality); the guided tour is offered by the National Gallery of Umbria. Meeting in the atrium of the Palazzo dei Priori, payment to the contact person of the Perugia1416 Association who will be present at the moment. Reservations required, tel 339 7886286
4.30 pm:
Inauguration of Pages of the Middle Ages book market, with volumes of historical and artistic inspiration between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and on Perugia and Perugino, for young and adults, and of the exhibitions: “Gold, iron, blood. Symbolism and color of the European Cavalry from Orlando to Braccio Fortebracci ” curated by Franco Cardini, “Little Middle Ages”, by UMP-UnioneModellisti Perugia and ”From the neighborhood to the city: materials and games to get to know the five Magnificent Districts of Perugia”, by the Scuola d’Infanzia G.Santucci; stall of the “Miniature Miniators” desk with Carla Mancini and her little “shop assistants” (Rocca Paolina)
5pm:
presentation of the book “the Battle of Sant’Egidio. 12 July 1416”: the author Maria ,Chiara Bisacci talks about it with Marco Nicoletti (CERP, Rocca Paolina)
6pm: Holy Mass in the Cathedral, celebrated by the Archbishop of Perugia and Città della Pieve, S.E. Ivan Maffeis, and blessing ceremony of the Palio, the banners of the districts and the athletes.
To follow: Concert by the Choir of the Cantarine of Porta Sole and exhibition of their Drummers; medieval dances with the Compagnia de Peroscia (Piazza IV Novembre)
7.30pm: Taverns opening
9pm: Country Feast in the garden of the monumental complex of San Matteo degli Armeni (Via Monteripido, outside the walls). Theatrical interludes, drums and music, dances and tastings awaiting the launch of the calls for challenge between the districts. First competition, Archery: each district participates with 3 archers who will compete with historical archery at night.

Saturday June 10th

5.30pm:
Mossa alla Torre (Piazza Matteotti), the second race that sees the districts challenge each other and climb the final score for the award of the Palio 2023. Original, enthralling and pressing competition, characterized by a “machine” – the tower – decorated with local symbols, which, moved up to determine the victory of one of the two teams; the Rioni face off two by two in a competition of physical strength aimed at eliminating the rival team through a game of tactics, muscular energy and cooperation

Pax Perusina: Entrance of Braccio Fortebracci in Perugia (Piazza IV Novembre). Suggestive commemoration of the return to his city after the long exile and the victory in the battle of Sant’Egidio on 12 July 1416: Braccio enters into peace and is welcomed by the Consuls of the five districts at the foot of the steps of the Palazzo dei Priori. The square, illuminated by torches and animated by the sound of drums, restores the solemnity of the moment. Followed by a great night show by the Compagnia Piccolo Nuovo Teatro: actors on stilts and fire eaters move around the square, with great fascination

Sunday June 11th

5.15pm: Departure of the Braccio Fortebracci parade from Piazza della Repubblica towards Piazza Grande (Piazza IV Novembre)
5.30pm: Regency procession meets the one of Braccio Fortebracci in Piazza Grande (Piazza IV Novembre); ascent to the Palazzo dei Priori. Under the Griffin, symbol of Perugia, the First Prior hands over the keys to the city to the new lord
5.40pm: the Grand Parade in honor of Braccio Fortebracci begins, proceeding from Piazza della Repubblica along the Corso towards the Piazza Grande (Piazza IV Novembre). The five districts parade following the order of the last edition’s classification and interpret the univocal 2023 theme centered on the figure of woman in the Middle Ages. They will be judged by the Jury on historical relevance, interpretation and scenography. The guest delegations follow in order: Montone (Donazione della Santa Spina), Gualdo Tadino (Giochi delle Porte), Camerino (Corsa alla Spada e Palio – Soavi Allegrezze dei Da Varano – Aspidum Sagittas); Senigallia (Il Solenne Ingresso), Visso (Torneo delle Guaite),  Todi (La Disfida di S.Fortunato – Arcus Tuder)
During the Procession it is not allowed to cross: in case of need, for example to reach the exhibition in the National Gallery of Umbria, we kindly ask you to follow the indications for alternative routes
-Followed by the Corsa del Drappo, third and last sports competition: (Piazza IV Novembre, Corso Vannucci, Piazza della Repubblica and back). A relay race of speed and endurance which features four changes per team, one per lap, for a total of five laps.
Parade Jurors hand in their Valutations, which add up to the scores from the sports competitions to decide the winner
7pm: Solemn proclamation of the winning District (Scala del Palazzo dei Priori). The Capitano del Popolo takes off the victory collar from the neck of the Captain of the District winner of the previous edition and entrusts it, for the whole coming year, to the Captain of the District who will have won the Palio 2023
7.30pm: Opening Taverns to end the challenge and the evening in friendship!
